CAHEC Foundation Provides Nearly 40,000 Meals Through Three Food Distributions
In partnership with the Interfaith Food Shuttle, two food box distributions were held in Rocky Mount, NC, where volunteers worked together to prepare and distribute 250 food boxes during each event. Every car that came through the mobile market received a box of fresh produce, meat, bread, and non-perishable items, providing over 18,000 meals to residents in need. Thank you to Mosaic Development, Southern Bank, Third Wave Housing, Truist, and United Bank for providing funding to make this initiative a possibility.

On a separate occasion, volunteers from CAHEC, NC A&T University, and Food Lion gathered to help distribute boxes to 325 families in Greensboro, NC. By partnering with the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest NC, the CAHEC Foundation was able to provide nearly 20,000 meals during the distribution. Households received toiletries, fresh produce, non-perishable items, a frozen turkey, and a gift card to their local grocery store. Thank you to Truist for their support of this initiative.
A common sight at both events was the significant number of cars lining up well before the distributions began, with some vehicles arriving three or more hours early to secure essential food items. Stefanie Lee, Community Relations Manager at CAHEC, expressed, “it is evident that the need for food assistance remains high in our footprint, as seen from the number of people who show up before the event even starts. We are honored to play a small role in providing nutritious meals for residents in our community and remain hopeful that there is a future where these events are no longer necessary.”

Back to School Event
As an extension of the CAHEC Foundation’s Youth Leadership Initiative, we partnered with Truist over the summer to host a Back-to-School event at Cypress Cove Apartments in Wilmington, NC. Over 200 residents showed up to the event, ready to receive a few school essentials for their kids as the school year quickly approached. “Thanks to a sponsorship from Truist, we were able to hand out 150 backpacks filled with school supplies – like folders, notebooks, crayons, pencils, and more,” explained Stefanie Lee, Community Relations Manager for CAHEC. “We also handed out water bottles and had a sticker station so kids could decorate them. It was so fun to interact with the kids and hear how excited they were about the upcoming school year!”
In addition to the school supply giveaway, members from Truist were in attendance to talk to families about their banking needs, while also playing a Financial Fraud trivia game. It was a great way for the community to come together, interact with their neighbors, and build trust with a local banking entity.
A special thank you Truist and Remnant Management for being onsite to volunteer with us as we hosted the event!
